Mega Bloks Mishap

I'm working on a masterpost related to Monster High coming up soon! In the meantime, I felt like sharing a story concerning my recent misfortune with a Mega Bloks canister.

If you're unfamiliar with Mega Bloks, they're plastic connector blocks that are similar to Lego. If you're unfamiliar with Lego, I assume you are an alien from deep, uncharted space (even the aliens from nearby planets know about Lego, you know). I've never owned any, so I don't have anything to say one way or the other about them. They look fun though! And there's a nice selection of themes to choose from (Monster High sets coming in Summer 2015! Oh my Ra!).

So, my tale of woe: At work, I was organizing the Mega Bloks section and attempted to gracefully place a Hot Wheels canister on the top shelf. I clumsily missed and the (surprisingly heavy) canister bashed me on the bridge of my nose as it plummeted to the floor.

The culprit.

It hurt. A lot, actually. More than I thought it would after the initial impact. I imagined my face dripping with blood, my poor nose crushed and horrifically bent. After I looked in a mirror, I noticed that I had a small cut on the bridge of my nose and some swelling, but nothing nearly as ghastly as I assumed. As such, I felt like a fool searching around online for "how do I know if my nose is broken," not wanting to add "because a Mega Bloks Hot Wheels cyclinder fell on me and I only have a small bump on my nose." I think I'm fine. There's still a bit of swelling, but I think my pride took the most damage.

C'est la vie.

Oh, look! It's still here! Hi, blog!

Hey there! How’s it going? Good? That’s great! I’ve been well, too. Has it really been 5 whole years since we last chatted? Heigh-ho.

Back in 2010, I started this blog as a fun project, and then promptly forgot about it! Oops. Well, I Googled myself to see if I was still out there on the interwebs. Sure enough, still here. Wow! I had a fun time with my brief foray into blogging. That being said, I didn’t realize the how much of a (very entertaining) time-sink it can be.  Thus my absence.

So, I’m back! Where to begin? When I started this blog, my main fixation was DC Universe Classics, which have come and gone. The line finished up a while ago with a lazy bang at Wave 20, as well as a few relatively pathetic releases on Matty. I still love them, but I’ve moved on to different obsessions these days.

When I was a kid, I collected all kinds of things: action figures, dolls, cards, video games, various psychological issues, etc. I never throw anything away. Well, that’s a lie. I throw away garbage. Most of the time. But I still have my old Pokemon cards from the 90s and bins of Barbie clothes from my youth. I recently began working in retail, which has reignited my interest in toys. Specifically, dolls. More specifically, Monster High and Ever After High. I remember when these came out a few years ago. I thought they were weird and ugly. Having spent time around them in the store, I’ve had a complete change of heart and I’m now obsessed with them. I feel like a drug addict. Actually, I feel like how I assume a drug addict feels.

I still collect all kinds of things, but my main focus at the time is on these doll lines. My fervor inspired me to revisit writing about toys on this blog, so I have returned. It’s just the way I left it. So, I do intend to actually resume posting  here. Probably. Knowing my tendency to get excited about (re)starting a project and then immediately dropping the idea, I’ve decided to stack the tired, metaphorical deck in my favor with this strategy: setting the bar low. How about at least 1 post a month? I can do that, right? Even if it’s just to babble about how I really need to get back to this?

Sure I can! I guess. So, if you like toys or just feel like reading my thoughts about this and that (mostly that), stay tuned for reviews about Monster High dolls, action figures, and more!

Questions? Comments? Epiphanies? Feel free to drop me a comment (which I’ll read), tweet (which I probably won’t actually read, sorry!), or email (which I’ll definitely read), if you are so inclined.

It’s good to be home.
